Trip Across Africa DAY #7
This morning would be our last day in Zambia. Zambia is a beautiful country, but we needed to move on to our next destination. We had a breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast, then we left the beautiful grounds of the Zig Zag Bed and Breakfast in Livingstone.
.
On our drive toward the Namibia border, I noticed that the area was becoming drier and vegetation grew less and less as we drew ever closer to the desert land of Namibia. We already thought that Zambia’s border patrol was much more official than Mozambique or Malawi. When we got to Namibia, the border officials were even more professional than before.
.
We also learned how to say, “thank you” in two new languages. In Tonga, the language of the Livingstone area, you say, “twawumba.” In Lozi, the language of the Caprivi Strip in Namibia, you say, “nitumezi.”
.
Namibia has much South African influence. So all of the stores and streets are much more developed. We are staying at a hotel called the “Zambezi Lodge.” It overlooks the great Zambezi River. At night, crocodiles and hippos come out of the river, not far from where we’re staying. Namibia is going to be a great adventure.
