Our New Pet Puppy
The other day some dear Pohnpeain friends of ours came over to our new house and said that God had shown them that they needed to give us a puppy. We've been wanting a dog to guard the house but had never asked around for one, yet. I was so grateful and received such a beautiful gift of a new pet puppy. We named him Joshua, or Josh for short, as our new dog is a mighty warrior who will take the land. I already anointed him yesterday as a "mighty warrior" and "faithful friend."
.
In Pohnpei, dogs are both pets and food. I will make sure that Josh remains our pet indefinitely, rather than becoming a meal someday. There aren't really breeds of dogs here in Pohnpei. Just mutts, really. But I must say that Josh is one of the cutest mutts I have seen.

MICRONESIA 2013 - Paralyzed Man Healed

Paralyzed Man Healed
Tonight at an evangelistic crusade at the Old Spanish wall in Kolonia town, I was pulled aside by a Pohnpeian friend of mine to pray for an indigenous islander named Jack, who had a stroke seven years ago and has been completely paralyzed on the left side of his body ever since. We saw that he had the faith to be healed and I anointed him with oil, and laid hands on him. His body began to shake and within minutes he was moving his left arm and left leg for the first time in such a way since the stroke. He said he felt something happening in his body as we prayed. He thanked us, I gave him a big hug, and then he got up and walked away all on his own. Seeing a man touched by the love and the power of Jesus is the best birthday present I could ever ask for.

MICRONESIA 2013 - Making Furniture for the Elderly

Making Furniture for the Elderly
My friend Amy from Every Home for Christ asked if I could make a new bed frame for her mom who is elderly and has a hard time getting in and out of her bed which is too high off of the ground. I was happy to make the bed for her. I went to Do-It-Best hardware store to get materials to make it the other day. Then this morning I made it in about an hour and a half. I am glad I could help in some small way. I have a plan in the near future to make furniture from all locally grown, renewable resources and teach Pohnpeians how to do so in order to provide the islanders with quality, low-cost furniture while generating more income for the ministry here. Making this bed really encouraged me to continue on in this dream.

MICRONESIA 2013 - Second Outreach at Pohnrakied

Second Outreach at Pohnrakied
Tonight was our second time doing an outreach in Pohnrakied village [our first outreach was late last year], which is inhabited mostly by Polynesians originating from the outer island of Kapingamarangi. The outreach was started off by singing worship songs, and then went into action choruses and fire dancing. Before the night was over, the gospel was preached and the opportunity to receive [Jesus,] healing and prayer. Many people came forward to receive Jesus into their lives [well over one hundred], as well as to receive healing for various illnesses and disabilities. Nearly all who came forward were healed and touched by the Holy Spirit. God was present and many lives were changed tonight through the love of Jesus.

MICRONESIA 2013 - Street Ministry

Street Ministry
This past Friday Jonas, Alfonso and I decided that we would once again hit the streets of Kolonia in hopes to share the love of Jesus with Pohnpeian youth. This time we took my skateboard and guitar. Sometimes we have seen youth at the movie theater parking lot with skateboards, but this past Friday night the parking lot was empty. We decided to try Kolonia Elementary School as there are lights at the basketball court and plenty of youth gathered. I got out my skateboard and skated for a while. The youth loved it. One young man came and talked with Alfonso, who ended up leading him in prayer to receive Jesus. I got out my guitar and played some original tunes and was able to use my music to share the gospel of Christ with some other youth.
.
From Kolonia elementary we headed toward Mabusi and Komwonlaid, where we saw a group of young men gathered by the side of the road. We got out, bought sodas and sat down to talk with them. They were all catholic, but when we asked them if they had asked Jesus Christ into their hearts they said that they had. We asked when. They responded that they had prayed and received Jesus at the Spanish Wall crusade just two days prior. We were then able to follow up with these brand new believers and encourage them in how to walk with Jesus. It was an amazing night of street ministry.

MICRONESIA 2013 - Our New Pet Parrot

Our New Pet Parrot
...well technically it is a lorikeet; the Pohnpeian lorikeet to be exact. It is the Pohnpei state bird and I have always wanted to have one for a pet since we first arrived in the late '90's. Yesterday, our missionary friends surprised us with a phone call saying that they found one for sale. They bought it for me as an early birthday present. It left my son and I just hours to make a cage for it from some security wire that we had. Within a couple of hours the cage was finished, and soon enough our friends arrived with Mikey. Yep. Mikey is his nickname and is short for Michael. We named him after Michael the archangel. Mikey is the newest part of our family and I am overjoyed to be able to have a new friend. He loves to cuddle. He is really young so I am still hand feeding him. I am so blessed to have such thoughtful friends and a God who loves me so much.
