Resurrection Sunday
In Poland, Easter is a big holiday. The evangelical church doesn’t really celebrate Easter the same way that the Catholic Church does, yet we were a part of three services over the weekend. We also got a chance to hang out with some friends and have fun with the kids.
.
The first service we took part in was the Good Friday service. Some special guests, Tom and Ann from England came to Poland for the weekend. Tom was the guest speaker for at the Good Friday service. We had singing, prayer, a message and communion. Of course, the focus was on Jesus’ death on the cross. Daniel asked if I could sing a song. I chose, “Once Again,” by Matt Redman. Daniel translated it into Polish the day before, and I sang it in English, but we were able to sing the bridge in Polish which says, “Dzięnkuje Ci ya krzyż, Dzięnkuje Ci ya krzyż, Dzięnkuje Ci ya krzyż moj Przyjacielu,” which in English is, “Thank You for the cross, Thank You for the cross, Thank You for the cross my Friend.”

Our next service was on Sunday morning, which we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus, as most evangelical churches traditionally do. There were a lot of people there that morning, which was awesome. We had a great time of worship, prayer and a message, which Tom gave once again. I was asked to sing, “Once Again,” at this service as well. The message was great and challenged us to remember what happened when Jesus rose from the dead. Daniel had translated a drama earlier, and the children from the church performed it. They did a great job. After the church service our family went to Mark and Naomi’s house to have obiad, watch a movie together and have an Easter egg hunt for the kids. It was a lot of fun. That evening, we came back and were able to watch the Easter service at Whipple Creek Church live on the internet.

Easter weekend lasts through Monday here in Poland. But on Monday, part of their tradition has to do with soaking people with water throughout the day. So we were squirted with water during the day on Monday. We followed a group from the church in Piotrków-Trybunalski to the village church in Kolonia Psorki where our team from Whipple Creek went a couple of years ago. The kids got to see the different farm animals. Then we all packed into one room. Andrzej led the service and gave the message. We had a time of singing hymns in Polish from their hymn books. Once again, I was asked to sing the song, “Once Again,” and also sang, “How Great Is Our God.” Afterwards we had a time of fellowship, ate pastries and had a cup of tea. We went to Andrzej and Kasia’s house, had obiad and spent the afternoon with them and Kasia’s brother and sister. Then we went to Daniel’s house for an evening meal. Afterward, the kids and the Krystoń family played “spoons,” while I got slaughtered at a game of chess with Amadeusz first, then with Łukasz. We had a great weekend as we celebrated Jesus’ death and resurrection with our friends here in Poland.
